Stunt Driving

Stunt driving is treated as a serious traffic offence under Alberta law. Tickets are issued when a driver or passenger engages in conduct that distracts, startles, or interferes with other road users.

Common examples include:

• Hanging out of a vehicle window
• Making rude or aggressive gestures
• Engaging in disruptive behavior toward other drivers-
• Performing dangerous stunts such as donuts
• Driving at speeds 50 km/h or more over the posted limit

Penalties for Stunt Driving

• Fines: $567 – $2,000 (depending on the severity of the offence)
• Demerits: 6 points
• Insurance Impact: Premium increases similar to those seen with impaired driving convictions
• Additional Risks: Possible licence suspension, vehicle seizure, or in severe cases, jail time
